There is something exciting happening in Lufkin.
Throughout 2026, artists, organizations, businesses, families, and community partners have continued finding new ways to come together through creativity. From downtown events and public art to summer programming and artist development, the arts are showing up in more places and more people are becoming part of the story.
For Lufkin Creative, that is exactly what a thriving arts community should look like.

Art brought people downtown
In April, ArtFull Saturday helped fill Downtown Lufkin with art, music, activity, and connection.
The day included opportunities to explore local art, meet artists, visit downtown businesses, and spend time experiencing the creative side of the community. KTRE highlighted the Art Walk as part of Lufkin’s evolving downtown event programming, with Lufkin Creative helping create opportunities for people to connect with artists while supporting the downtown experience.
Events like these create moments where people can discover something new, meet someone they may not have met otherwise, and experience familiar places in a different way.
That kind of connection matters.
The community became part of the art
Creativity became even more hands-on when community members were invited to help paint a downtown mural.
No professional art experience was required. The invitation was simple: come be part of it.
The mural project gave residents the chance to contribute directly to something visible and lasting in the community. It turned public art into a shared experience not something people only look at, but something they can help create.
That spirit of participation is at the heart of Lufkin Creative’s mission: to cultivate and support an authentic and collaborative thriving arts community.
A thriving arts community is not built by artists alone. It grows when people feel invited to participate.

Collaboration kept growing
That same spirit of connection continued throughout the summer.
Lufkin Creative joined other local organizations and community partners supporting Summer in the City, a downtown event series that brought music, activities, movies, and family experiences to Lufkin throughout June, July, and August.
Partnerships like these are an important part of building a stronger creative community.
When arts organizations, businesses, civic partners, artists, and residents work together, the result is bigger than any single event. It creates more reasons to gather, more opportunities for local talent to be seen, and more ways for people to feel connected to the place they call home.
Now, we invest in the artists
Our next step in that momentum was the 2026 Creative Collective Artist Workshop Series held on Saturday, August 22, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Pitser Garrison Convention Center.
This workshop was designed to give local artists and creatives practical tools to strengthen the way they present their work from branding and websites to social media, portfolios, booths, and professional presence.
Supporting artist means helping creatives build confidence, make connections, access opportunities, and develop the tools they need to keep growing.
That investment strengthens the entire creative community.

And there is more ahead
This fall, Lufkin Creative will continue building on that momentum with the Heritage Festival on November 7 in Downtown Lufkin.
The festival will celebrate the diverse cultures, traditions, stories, food, art, and experiences that help shape our community.
It is another opportunity to bring people together, learn from one another, and celebrate the creativity and heritage that make East Texas unique.

This is what a thriving arts community looks like
It is not one mural.
It is not one event.
It is not one organization.
It is artists sharing their work. Families experiencing something new. Businesses opening their doors. Community partners showing up. Residents picking up a paintbrush. Creatives learning from one another. People gathering downtown simply because there is something worth experiencing together.
That is how momentum builds.
And that is how creativity becomes part of the identity of a community.
Lufkin Creative is proud to keep helping create those opportunities and we are excited about what comes next.
Follow Lufkin Creative, attend an upcoming event, support a local artist, share the work, or help make future creative opportunities possible.
Together, we help creativity thrive.
